Congress flipped.
Here's the tea.
On November 3, Democrats won the House and the Senate. I broke down what it means for the sectors, and the stocks inside them, in plain girlfriend language.
Hey girl, I'm Tiffany.
I'm the daughter of Jamaican and Haitian immigrants, and nobody taught me money growing up. In 2019 I put one paycheck into Tesla. I taught myself everything, and turned my first $10K into a $7 million portfolio.
I looked around and saw almost no women, and definitely no Black women, in the rooms talking stocks. So I built Modern Blk Girl, and I've taught over 500,000 women how to invest.
Since then I've invested in private companies and given keynote speeches all over the world, at places like Yale and so many more.
Now I help women win. Sometimes I trade live with you in real time. Sometimes I bring you the good opportunities before everyone else is talking about them. Trust me, girl, I've got everything you need. So let's get into it.
The tea is right here, sis.

Unlock it →WTF is a midterm, and why does it matter?
A is the election in the middle of a president's four years. The president isn't on the ballot. Congress is. And Congress controls the money.
Every single one. Democrats passed the 218 they needed to take the House.
Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. Texas, girl.
About 250 House seats and 54 Senate seats, projected. Some races are still being counted.
Democrats won Congress, not the White House. Trump is still president for two more years, and he can still what they pass. To beat a veto, Congress needs two-thirds of both chambers. Democrats don't have that.
So what does Congress actually control?
The market loved it.
Wall Street hates surprises. Now Democrats run Congress and Republicans run the White House. That usually means : fewer sudden laws, fewer surprises. The market relaxed.
But under the surface, money moved out of some sectors and into others. That's where we make our money, sis.
▲ Money went in
- Health insurers and hospitals
- Solar and renewables
- Gold and silver miners
▼ Money went out
- AI data centers
- Defense
- Crypto and Trump-tied names
- Private prisons
- Musk companies
Who ate under the GOP, and who got hurt.
For two years, Republicans ran everything. Their favorite sectors ate first. Then the vote flipped the script.
| Sector | 2025–26 | Why | Nov 4 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Defense | Ate | missile shield got about $25B through the 2025 tax law | ▼ Down |
| AI & data centers | Ate | White House pushed Congress to override state AI rules | ▼ Down |
| Crypto | Ate | Friendly regulators, plus the president's family in crypto | ▼ Down |
| Private prisons | Ate | Immigration detention money | ▼ Down |
| Renewables | Hurt | 2025 tax law cut clean-energy credits | ▲ Up |
| Health insurers | Hurt | expired; Centene lost about 39% of its marketplace members | ▲ Up |
| Hospitals | Hurt | Fewer insured patients; Medicaid work rules start 2027 | ▲ Up |
See the pattern? What ate under Republicans sold off. What got hurt bounced.
Okay sis, things are gonna change. But it takes time.
Nothing flips overnight. Here's the story of the next two years, in four chapters.
The old Congress is still in the building
Even though Democrats won, the old Republican Congress keeps working until January. That's called the . Watch for them to rush defense money through before they leave.
The new Congress walks in
Democrats take the gavels. They run the committees, so they can open investigations, call hearings and people. This is when the headlines start.
The government needs to borrow more money
The U.S. has a borrowing limit, like a credit card limit. In 2027 it has to be raised, and Congress has to vote yes. That gives Democrats a bargaining chip: "We'll vote yes, if you give us health care money and cut defense." That's the , and it's their best shot at real change.
The tax cuts run out
Big parts of the 2025 tax law expire, right around the next presidential election. Everything gets negotiated again.
On the table
Watch these. They move the stocks.
- ACA health subsidies could come back
- Medicaid work rules could get pushed back
- Golden Dome and extra defense money could get cut
- Data center tax breaks could shrink
- Crypto-friendly laws will likely stall
Probably won't change fast
Don't trade on these changing soon.
- Tariffs. The president sets them with power Congress already gave him
- The 2025 tax cuts. Undoing them needs Trump's signature
- Big health care changes. Morgan Stanley thinks they're unlikely before the next presidential election

AI got hit the hardest.
Not because Congress passed anything yet. Because data centers became a ballot issue, and voters said no.
- 1Texas flipped. The new Democratic governor promised a pause on new data centers. Texas holds about 27% of planned U.S. data center power.

- 2Voters said no.41 data center ballot measures in 10 states. Voters rejected all but one.
- 3Hearings are coming.Within hours, Democrats called for AI executives to testify under oath.
- 4Keep it real.A national ban is unlikely. Most lawmakers in both parties reject it. And AI was already down over 24% from its peak before the vote.

The Trump-tied stocks fell. More could come.
On January 3, Democrats get power. Before, they could only write letters. Now they can force documents and testimony. These are investigations, not findings yet, so we watch, we don't assume.

Save this, sis.
Names to watch, not a shopping list. Tap any ticker to see who they are. Then wait for the setup.
▲ Could do well
If ACA subsidies come back in a 2027 debt-limit deal.
Policy mood shifted their way. Bringing back the credits is hard past a veto.
The dollar dropped to a one-month-plus low.
Cantor named these relative winners. Location is the new trade.
▼ Could struggle
State permit fights and the Texas pause.
Texas-based, big AI plans, big GOP spending.
Golden Dome and the extra $350B on the chopping block.
Pentagon contracts under a microscope.
Oversight hearings and stalled crypto laws.
Immigration funding fights.
They could swing either way, depending on whether Congress moves to limit or undo the stakes.
Headlines move stocks for a day. Policy moves sectors for years.
